New book, new site, new blog

WesternOrphans has worked really hard to raise awareness about orphans in western countries since May 1st, 2007. I started with WeesWijzer, a Dutch word that means as much as 'be wiser', and 'guide for orphans'. The word 'wees' has a double meaning in Dutch. That's why I had to think of a way to translate the name, also because WeesWijzer is, well, also the publisher of the translation of my book. So we created an imprint: WesternOrphans. So that most people will understand what we are trying to do and say.

And now the moment is almost there...the international publication of my book 'So, you're an orphan now'. The ISBN number is claimed, the copy is checked by Leah, my wonderful editor in Texas, the design is completed, the hard copy books are being printed as I write this. So it's time for the countdown.

If everything goes according to plan, the first international edition will be in my possession somewhere around December 12th. Like I have written in my book: nothing is stronger than an idea that's ready for the world. And so it is.

So many things have changed in my country, since the first (Dutch) publication of this book:

Several young orphans have been saved from eviction from their homes.

The book has been widely covered in all national newspapers, on prime time national television in the news, in several professional journals, in magazines, on national radio, in local newspapers. And in real life, on the book presentation in Hotel New York in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. A historic place: from the cruise terminal attached to Hotel New York, a great many people have emigrated to the United States, in search of a better life. It was a symbolic, beautiful location for a project that is so close to my heart. And also in other people's hearts. And that is the best thing of all.

We're almost ready.
