My country, the Netherlands, is grieving. We are mourning the enormous loss of many, many people who have died in the #MH17 crash. This horrifying event has left many people who have to live with this deep wound in their lives. They have lost their children, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, friends, loved ones or collegues (or all of them). One newspaper had this headline: 'Everyone KNOWS somebody'. Which means: all victims are in all segments of our Dutch society. Young, old, rich, less fortunate, highly educated, lower educated. Nobody was spared. And most people in Holland know a victim, or a victim's friend. The bereavement is enormous and the consequences of it will have a deep influence on our lives for decades to come.
